Synopsis :

Synopsis:

In 1965 the planned closing of a coal mine in Iwaki (northeastern Japan) will put 2,000 people out of work with devastating effects on the community. The mining company plans to build the Hawaiian Center to promote tourism, but the idea meets with resistance by the community's union families who boycott the effort. However, a few of the young women in Joban see the call for dancers to possibly provide a more promising future. Norio Yoshimoto is put in charge of organizing the center, with Madoka Hirayama, a professional dancer fleeing creditors in Tokyo hired to train the dancers. Kimiko, her friend Sanae, and Sayuri are amongst the handful first showing up for lessons but soon others join them. When Kimiko's mother, Chiyo, discovers that she has skipped school classes to learn dancing the two argue and Kimiko leaves home. Her brother Yojiro, one of the newly out of work miners, comes to be supportive of her dancing as he becomes protective of Madoka. The girls start to tour neighboring communities and dance to promote the center, getting more proficient in the process. After secretly seeing Kimiko practice, and how good she has become, Chiyo helps gather heaters to save palm trees imported from Taiwan from dying from the cold. Her change of heart as head of the union's woman's organization shifts the sympathies of the community as the opening of the center nears. Madoka has molded coal miner's daughters into professional dancers, and Kimiko performs a standout solo dance at the opening.

The story begins with Kenji Togashi (Oda Yuji) and Yoshioka, two of the Okutawa dam operators trying to help some lost climbers in a stormy snow blizzard. It was actually not a part of their duty, but as climbers they couldn't just ignores the lost climbers. The situation made Togashi shall continue to go alone finding some help for Yoshioka and the lost climbers who left in the blizzard. Togashi trying really hard to find help, but he fainted which made Yoshioka and others waited really long. They are well succeeded on saving the climbers life, but Yoshioka is dead on protecting one of the climbers. Togashi blamed himself for this. The dead of Yoshioka made his fiancee named Okuda Chiaki (Matsushima Nanako) really sad and also blamed Togashi for just saving his ownself and left his partner.Togashi was once went to Chiaki's workplace to give her something belonged to Yoshioka (Note: I believe it's a compass with the name Chiaki on the cover), but he failed to meet Chiaki. Chiaki then decided to go to Okutawa Dam, to see Yoshioka's workplace. At the very same time she arrived there, the dam is taken under control of a Red Moon terrorist who demanded to government to give them 5 billion yen. Chiaki and the operators of the dam are now being hostages, leaving only Togashi finding help from them. The operators are all believed that Togashi will try his best to help them, while Chiaki is sure that Togashi will only run saving himself alone.

Based on a true story, the oddly titled Shining Boy and Little Randy stars Yuya Yagira in his first role since winning the Best Actor award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival for Nobody Knows. In this 2005 film, Yagira plays Tetsu Susumu, an introspective, somewhat rebellious teen who lives with his family on a Hokkaido animal ranch. Owned and operated by his feisty mother Saori (Takako Tokiwa) and his bumbling stepfather (Katsumi Takahashi), the ranch is essentially an animal talent agency, since the family rents out their animals to television stations and movie studios to put food on the table. After completing his stay in Thailand, Tetsu returns to Japan with the dream of one day establishing a sanctuary for elephants. Along the way, he develops a romance with a local girl named Emi (Aoi Yu) and tries to mend the already strained relationship he has with his mother and stepfather.
